How to Access VMware Virtual Desktop
1. Purpose: The purpose of this SOP is to provide step-by-step instructions on how to access a VMware virtual desktop. This procedure is applicable for users who have been granted access to a virtual desktop environment.
2. Prerequisites: Before proceeding with the steps outlined in this SOP, ensure that you have the following prerequisites in place:
A valid user account with appropriate permissions.
Internet connectivity.
VMware Horizon Client software installed on your local device.
3. Steps: Follow these steps to access a VMware virtual desktop:
Step 1: Launch VMware Horizon Client
Open the VMware Horizon Client software installed on your local device.
If prompted, enter your username and password for authentication.
Step 2: Add Connection Server
Click on the "Add Server" or "New Server" button to configure the connection.
Enter the URL or IP address of the VMware Connection Server provided by your system administrator.
Click "Connect" or "Next" to proceed.
Step 3: Authenticate
Enter your username and password when prompted. These credentials are typically the same as your regular network login credentials.
If necessary, provide any additional authentication details required, such as a second-factor authentication code.
Step 4: Select Virtual Desktop
After successful authentication, you should see a list of available virtual desktops.
Locate the desired virtual desktop from the list and select it by clicking on its name.
Step 5: Connect to Virtual Desktop
Click on the "Connect" or "Launch" button to establish a connection to the selected virtual desktop.
Wait for the connection to be established, which may take a few moments.
Step 6: Access the Virtual Desktop
Once the connection is established, you will be presented with the VMware virtual desktop interface.
Use your local device's mouse, keyboard, and other peripherals to interact with the virtual desktop as if it were a physical computer.
4. Closing the Virtual Desktop:
To close the VMware virtual desktop session and disconnect from the virtual environment,
follow these steps:
In the virtual desktop interface, click on the "Start"or "Windows" button.
Select the "Power" option and choose "Shutdown" or "Restart" to gracefully exit the virtual desktop session.
Confirm the shutdown or restart action if prompted.
Close the VMware Horizon Client software on your local device.
Note: Always remember to save your work within the virtual desktop before closing the session to avoid losing any unsaved data.
5. Troubleshooting: If you encounter any issues while accessing the VMware virtual desktop, such as connection failures or authentication problems, contact your system administrator or IT support for assistance. Provide them with detailed information about the problem, including any error messages received, to facilitate a quick resolution.
